Concentration mine expansion project: Saving time during start-up with 330 Flowrox pinch valves
After seven years of implementation of Flowrox™ pinch valves in a Spanish concentration plant, customer remains satisfied with the reliable operation and easy maintenance of the valves.
330 Flowrox PVE and PVG pinch valves were ordered by Trafigura Mining Group for various demanding flow control and shut-off duties, from ore treatment to water treatment plants and process water supply. All these pinch valves were installed in an extension of their ore and water treatment plant which was carried out in 2014. The project basically consisted of duplicating the size of an existing plant.
In a nutshell
Customer: Trafigura Mining Group, MATSA mine, Spain
Products: 330 PVE enclosed body & PVG shut-off valves
Application: Ore & water treatment & process water supply in copper, zinc and lead mining
Benefits: Cost savings, process reliability, easy installation and maintenance
Flowrox™ pinch valves were chosen to gain long-term benefits
based on low total cost of ownership.
Instrumentation is fundamental to the process performance
“When the project was engineered, we constantly had in mind that the choice of appropriate instrumentation for each application is fundamental to the process performance. We decided that all control valves and also some of the shut-off valves would be pinch valves, which finally ended up saving us a lot of time in the start-up of the plant,” says Ms. Luisa Montes, a Project Team Member from MATSA mine. The manager of the project was initially very reluctant to consider Flowrox pinch valves, mainly because of their high price. The area manager of Valmet and local Spanish representative had to visit them many times to convince several engineers involved in the expansion project. Hard work paid off and finally the managers and the board was convinced of the long-term benefits of Flowrox pinch valves.
The correct valve specifications ensure also the longest possible sleeve life time.
All installed Flowrox pinch valves have an enclosed body type and include an SBRT valve sleeve to meet the requirements of various mediums in different process areas. The correct valve specifications ensure also the longest possible sleeve life time. As the valves are self-cleaning, even if any solids are accumulated in the sleeve wall, it breaks away when the valve is operated. This is due to the flexibility of the sleeve, making the valve lifetime longer than many other competing products on the market.
Flowrox pinch valves were chosen to gain long-term benefits based on low total cost of ownership. The PVE control valves at the plant are actuated by pneumatic double acting actuators with positioners. Also, all of the on/off PVG valves include limit switches for position indication.
Originally Ms. Montes stated that “we are definitely expecting cost savings”. And now, seven years later customer says that in addition to cost savings they are very satisfied with the reliable operation and easy maintenance of the valves.
Seven years after installation the cost savings together with reliable operation and easy maintenance keep the customer happy.

Flowrox™ heavy duty pinch valves
Flowrox PV, PVE and PVE/S heavy duty pinch valves are designed for shut off and control applications involving abrasive or corrosive slurries, powders or granular substances. In the open position, the valve is full bore with no flow restrictions. During closing, two pinch bars squeeze the valve sleeve shut on the center line. Bubble tight shut-off is provided even if solids have built up on the sleeve wall.

Flowrox™ PVG and PVEG pinch valves
Flowrox PVG and PVEG pinch valves are robust and cost effective with simple, single-sided closing mechanism. PVG valve has a strong valve body and opening tags in the sleeve as a standard. PVEG valve has a corrosion resistant and light-weight plastic body. Through the reliability and structure, both kinds of valves offer substantial savings based on improved performance, long service lifetime and low total cost of ownership. Flowrox PVG and PVEG valves are ideal for low cycle applications involving abrasion, corrosion and aggressive slurries

Flowrox™ slurry knife gate valves
Heavy duty slurry knife gate valve isolates flow even in the most demanding process conditions. The bi-directional flow tolerates backflow and elastomer sleeves on both sides of the gate provide tight shut off. Flowrox knife gate valve follows the concept of the ease of maintenance. The valve body is cast in one piece which eliminates the need for sealing between the body halves. Load distribution ring is integrated into the valve sleeves. The valve contains only two service parts; ring sleeves and secondary seal.

Flowrox valves control sludge flow in a wastewater plant without any problems already for 10 years
Flowrox pinch valves PV 500 E01 are successfully controlling the sludge flow in a Polish wastewater plant. Twenty electrically actuated valves were delivered in 2011 to Poland through Danish engineering company Krüger A/S and local Valmet Flow Control channel partner.

Outstanding performance and zero maintenance with reliable Flowrox pinch valves
Reliable Flowrox™ high performance PVE pinch valves proved to be a perfect solution for a power generation water treatment plant located in Mpumalanga, South Africa. Six years after the installation of PVE pinch valves in power generation plant no maintenance has been required.

Valve management service provides production reliability for maintenance shutdowns at Outokumpu’s steel plant
The Outokumpu steel plant is an impressive sight next to the Gulf of Bothnia in Tornio. Despite being Outokumpu’s largest plant, it is very compact with everything close by. The plant produces stainless steel, and its history dates back to the 1960s. Its cooperation with Neles has spanned decades. “Cooperation has always been key,” says Aleksi Korteniemi, Category Manager, Outokumpu.
