Flowrox valves control sludge flow in a wastewater plant without any problems already for 10 years
Flowrox pinch valves PV 500 E01 are successfully controlling the sludge flow in a Polish wastewater plant. Twenty electrically actuated valves were delivered in 2011 to Poland through Danish engineering company Krüger A/S and local Valmet Flow Control channel partner.

Czajka is one of Europe’s biggest wastewater treatment plants situated in Warsaw, Poland. The plant has the capacity to process wastewater of 2 million people. The area of the plant is 1,2 km wide and 800 m long which equals the size of 74 football fields.
After six pre-settling tanks, there are ten aeration pools where the main biological process takes place. Each pool is seven meters deep and contains 37,225 m³ of the medium. After aeration pools, the wastewater is pumped to the secondary settling tanks where the biological sludge settles to the bottom. From there, it flows to the collection chambers through DN700 stainless pipes. Just before the chambers, the pipes are coned down to DN500 to fit the valves.
Benefits
- Gentle handling due to living bacteria in sludge
- Wide and accurate flow control range
- Extended maintenance interval: no sleeve changes during over 10 years of operation!
FlowroxTM pinch valves are controlling the sludge flow which must be as slow as possible to prevent mixing of the medium. From the collection chambers, the medium is gently pumped back to the starting point of the process as the mass contains the cleaning bacteria.
Flowrox valves have been working without any problems since commissioning. After more than 10 years in operation, not even a single sleeve has had to be replaced. The end customer, as well as the engineering company, have been very satisfied with the operation of the pinch valves.
Improved controllability with conical sleeve results in linear control curve.
Flowrox control valves are designed for demanding control applications in which conventional valves encounter problems with wear due to increased turbulence. Controllability can be further improved, i.e. linearized and widened, with conical sleeves and smart positioners.

What makes single rolling design peristaltic pumps the best solution when pumping abrasive slurries?
The superintendent of the water treatment plant was examining shoe designed peristaltic pumps and single rolling design peristaltic pumps. The customer was convinced that Flowrox's peristaltic pump with only one compression per 360 degree revolution will lead to at least 3-5 times longer hose life time than conventional hose pumps. After installation, the first hoses in the Flowrox pumps lasted approximately for 9 months - a great result with 11 million revolutions while pumping abrasive lime.

Flowrox control and shut-off pinch valves succeed in ore and water treatment plants in a Spanish mine
After seven years of implementation of Flowrox™ pinch valves in a concentration plant, customer remains satisfied with the cost savings combined with reliable operation and easy valve maintenance. All 330 pinch valves were installed in an extension of their ore and water treatment plant. The project basically consisted of duplicating the size of an existing plant.
